CHINOoK: Cascadia Hydrothermal circulation IN Oceanic (K)rust
Home About Team Blog (2022 cruise) Blog (2024_cruise)
The CHINOoK project is an NSF-funded experiment that includes research cruises offshore Washington and Oregon.
The objectives are to collect seafloor heat flux data and high-resolution 2D multichannel seismic reflection data along transects crossing basaltic basement highs (e.g., seamounts) and propagator wakes. This will allow us to determine the thermal effects of fluid circulation in the oceanic crust entering the Cascadia subduction zone.
One research cruise was aboard the R/V Langseth in fall 2022. A second cruise aboard the R/V Sally Ride is in fall 2024.
