Internships and Jobs
The Materials Engineering department is committed to providing an undergraduate research experience for as many students as possible. Some of these are paid positions, but for the most part are unpaid internships. The experience gained is often invaluable in applying for jobs or graduate schools. Preference is given to students in the 5-year BS/MS program and, with or without funding, these students are expected to engage in research while still undergraduates.
A limited number of summer research positions are also available, and BS/MS students are strongly encouraged to spend the summers of their junior and senior years doing research towards their degree.
A number of our students spend the summers as interns at one of the nearby National Laboratories (Sandia or Los Alamos).
