Educational/529 Plans
Students who have an educational/529 plan should contact the plan administrator to initiate the process. They will typically send a check or invoice to New Mexico Tech Student Accounts. It is recommended that this process be initiated at least 3 weeks before the semester starts to avoid any delays in payment.
If you have any questions or need further assistance with Educational/529 plans, please contact Student Accounts at 575-835-5338 or at gigi.garcia@nmt.edu .
Payment Plans
Payment plans can be set up online through Touchnet. Payment plans become available the Tuesday before the start of the semester. (For the summer semester, students must work with Student Accounts directly to set up a payment plan). The payment plan has a $25 setup fee, and requires 20% of the balance to be paid at the time of setup. The remaining balance will be split into three payments during the semester.

Private Loans
Students can apply for a private loan in addition to, or instead of Federal Direct Student Loans. New Mexico Tech recommends that students compare at least two different companies for interest rates, loan terms, and fees. Students can also check with their banking institution to see if they offer student loans. More information on private student loans can be found by visiting FASTChoice. As with any student loans, NMT Financial Aid encourages students to be aware of their rights and responsibilities as a borrower, and to borrow responsibly. Private loans typically require an application and credit check, and often, students will need a co-signer.
Private Loan Process:
- Submit application with loan company
- Once approved, the loan company will communicate with NMT Financial Aid to have the loan certified
- Once certified, the loan company will send funds to NMT
New Mexico Tech's Student Loan Code of Conduct for Education Loans
**Please note that the private loan process can take some time to complete; it is recommended that students begin the process at least a month before the semester starts
Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you have any questions.
