Fellowships for U.S. Student Engineers for Master's students

Government-funded Fellowships/ Internships

These advanced degree opportunities range from graduate fellowships and research internships that graduate students can apply to directly to funding opportunities for academic institutions to establish innovative graduate training programs.

International Foundation for Ethical Research (IFER) Graduate Fellowship Program
Provides funding for graduate students at the master’s or PhD level who are working for the development and implementation of scientifically valid alternatives to the use of animals in research, product testing and education. The foundation will consider students in fields such as sciences, humanities, psychology and journalism.
International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) Awards

STPP Fellowships and Internships
Internships and fellowships allow you to explore a career and gain valuable experience while building your professional network. Internships are usually shorter-term and offer hands-on experiences in key areas of policymaking. They may be paid or unpaid, and while many are in the summer, others may be offered year-round.
Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation
Fellowships that support the development of future leaders at a variety of career stages in several critical fields, including STEM teaching.
AAUW International Fellowships^
AAUW (formerly known as the American Association of University Women) awards international fellowships for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not US citizens or permanent residents. Funding is available for Masters, PhD, and Postdoctoral support.
Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme
The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of partial scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from selected developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies. Funding is awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year.
Fulbright Foreign Student Program in USA

Hubert Humphrey Fellowships in USA for International Students
For for experienced professionals interested in strengthening their leadership skills through a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about issues of common concern in the U.S. and Fellows’ home countries. Funding possible in Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, and Climate Change.
For students holding a Kosovo passport in fields contributing to economic development of Kosovo. Graduates are required to return to Kosovo for two years after the program.
P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS)
The International Peace Scholarship Fund is provides need-based scholarships for selected women from other countries for graduate study in the United States.
Robert S. McNamara Phd Research Fellowships
The World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program awards fellowships to students from developing countries of up to $25,000 annually for developing country PhD candidates to conduct innovative, development-related, doctoral research under the supervision of a research advisor at a host institution abroad through a residency period of 6 to 10 months.
Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants for Development
The Rotary Foundation offers scholarship funding through the Rotary Foundation Global Grants. The scholarships funds graduate-level coursework or research for one to four academic years.
American Indian College Fund (AICF)
Disburses approximately 6,000 scholarships annually for American Indian students seeking to better their lives through higher education.
A.T. Anderson Memorial Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded to members of American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) who are American Indian/Alaskan Native college students pursuing academic programs in the sciences, engineering, medicine, natural resources and math.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)
Administers various scholarship programs. Each program has its own eligibility criteria, open/close dates and required documents.
NASA Harriett G. Jenkins Predoctoral Fellowship Project
Offered through the United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation and created in honor of Harriett G. Jenkins, this fellowship offers support to women and minorities who are full-time graduate students in the STEM disciplines. Awards include $24,000 annually for PhD fellows; $18,000 annually for master’s fellows; $8,500 tuition offset; and $8,000 for a research stipend.
National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science
Provides fellowships for minority students at the master’s and doctoral level in science and engineering fields. The fellowship also provides access to internships in research and development, product development and other high level technical careers.
Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans
Provides fellowships for graduate students in all fields of study who are permanent residents, naturalized citizens or children of naturalized citizen parents.
Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowships for Women
The Faculty for the Future program awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or Post-doctorate studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines at leading universities worldwide.

American Association of University Women Foundation

Association of Women in Science Education Foundation Fellowships
Provides several fellowships for women pursuing doctoral degrees in science fields such as behavioral science, life science, physical science, social science or engineering.
STEM Scholarships for Women Attending Graduate School
While gender equality has gained more awareness, women still tend to be underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers. L'Oreal USA For Women in Science Fellowship
The L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program awards five women postdoctoral scientists annually with grants of $60,000 each for their contributions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields and commitment to serving as role models for younger generations. The program is the U.S. component of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Fellowships program. Celebrating its fifteenth year in the U.S., the For Women in Science program has awarded 75 postdoctoral women scientists nearly $4 million grants.
Women Techmakers Scholars Program
Women Techmakers Scholars will each receive $10,000 USD (for students in the US) for the 2019-2020 academic year. The program is open to qualified students who meet the criteria and we strongly encourage people who identify as female to apply. All scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the annual Google Scholars' Retreat in Mountain View, California in 2019 to connect with fellow scholars, network with Googlers and participate in a number of development workshops.
Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowships
Awarded to talented women, pursuing advanced studies in the typically male-dominated fields of aerospace-related sciences and engineering.
American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Fellowships
The objective of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is to advance the arts, sciences and technology of aeronautics and astronautics. The AIAA Foundation Graduate Award program was established to promote graduate student and university research interest in technical fields (includes for example propellants and navigation).
American Meteorological Society Industry/Government Graduate Fellowships
This society provides funding for students in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic fields.
Anthony Ihedoha Anaebere, Sr. Memorial Scholarship*
Funding for Nigerian-born or first generation Nigerian-Americans pursuing engineering degrees.
ASHRAE Engineering Technology Scholarships
Through its scholarships, ASHRAE seeks to motivate students and prospective students worldwide to pursue an engineering or technology career in the HVAC&R field, part of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) industry.
Bullitt Environmental Leadership Fellowship
This is a two-year, $50,000/year fellowship for graduate students interested in pursuing leadership positions within the environmental field.
Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program
Fellows develop basic skills essential to working or participating in science policy at the federal, state, or local levels. Areas of study may include any social/behavioral science, medical/health discipline, physical or biological science, any field of engineering, law/business/public administration, or any relevant interdisciplinary fields.
Provides outstanding benefits and opportunities to students pursuing a PhD in areas of interest to stewardship science, such as high-energy-density physics, low-energy nuclear science, or properties of materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics. Fellows also participate in research at a DOE laboratory.
DOE Office of Science Graduate Fellowship Program
Program to support outstanding students to pursue graduate training in basic research in the areas of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences and environmental sciences relevant to the Office of Science and to encourage the development of the next generation of scientific and technical talent in the U.S.
Department of National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship Program
Fellowships are awarded to applicants who will pursue a doctoral degree in, or closely related to, an area of DoD interest.
EPA National Network for Environmental Management Studies Fellowship Program
This is a comprehensive fellowship program that provides graduate students an opportunity to participate in a fellowship project that is directly related to their field of study.

Grote Reber Doctoral Fellowships
The Grote Reber Doctoral Research Program at NRAO (formerly known as the "NRAO Pre-Doctoral Research Program") is jointly sponsored by the NRAO and by universities who wish their Ph.D. thesis students to have a concentrated exposure to research in radio astronomy, its instruments, or computational techniques under the supervision of an NRAO staff astronomer or engineer.
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Grants
Fellowships and grants supporting biomedical research.
Applied or computational mathematics, or related computational science and engineering discipline with a maximum of three years post-doctorate expereince and a competititve salary.
Link Foundation Fellowship in Advanced Simulation and Training
Funding for doctoral students studying simulation and training research and its application to fields such as computer science, engineering, psychology and education.
US Graduate students with the top proposals in three categories (gene silencing, depot formulation, and engineering/ materials science approaches to non-surgical sterilization of cats and dogs) will be awarded a $15,000 cash prize and will have the opportunity to apply for grant funding for their proposal in collaboration with a faculty advisor.
Microsoft Research Student Fellowship
Provides financial support for students conducting computer science research.
National Academies Fellowships
The National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine and National Research Council offer several fellowships in science, engineering and medicine.
National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship
Provides financial support for students in Biosciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive, Neural, and Behavorial Sciences, Computer and Computational Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Geosciences, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical, and Physics. Stipends average $31,000 per year plus full tuition and fees. There is no military service obligation.
National Nuclear Security Administration Graduate Fellowship Program
Graduate Fellowships in Global Nuclear Security in disciplines: Nuclear Physics/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Radiation Health Physics, Radiochemistry, chemical Sciences, Applied Physics, or backgrounds in safety and health, infrastructure and operations management, or finance/accounting. Administered by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
National Nuclear Security Administration Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship*
Funding for any discipline with focus on high energy density physics, nuclear science, or properties of materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics. Funds first and second year, full-time graduate students. Renewable up to four years.
National Physical Science Consortium Graduate Fellowships in Science and Engineering
Fellowships and internship opportunities in science fields such as astronomy, chemistry, computer science, geology, materials science, mathematical sciences, physics and related engineering fields: chemical, computer, electrical, environmental, mechanical.
National Water Research Institute Fellowships
Fellowships to graduate students in the U.S. in the areas of water resources and treatment.
NIH: Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards
Support for promising doctoral candidates who will be performing dissertation research and training in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers.
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)
Provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research.

Scholarships granted to full-time students in pursuit of Master or Doctoral level degrees in an OAS member state.
PhD STEM Scholarships and Fellowships
This is a collection of fully-funded scholarships and fellowships for student pursuing studies in STEM fields.
Rocky Mountain Research Fellowship
This fellowship opportunity invites a broad range of research proposals to be reviewed and conducted in Rocky Mountain National Park, including wildlife management, vegetation and riparian studies, fire ecology, cultural sciences, archeology and historic structures preservation, as well as other topics in botany, zoology, geology, history, ecology and ornithology.
The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering.
U.S. Department of Energy Computational Sciences Graduate Fellowships
Funding for students pursuing doctoral degrees in fields of study that use high performance computing to solve complex science and engineering problems.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security Graduate Fellowship Program
Provides stipend, tuition, and fees for students majoring in homeland security related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines with an interest, major or concentration directly related to one of the homeland security research areas.
Winston Churchill Foundation Scholarships
Provides funding for graduate students to conduct research and study for a year at Cambridge University.
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) announces the 2018 Jansky Fellowship Program which provides outstanding postdoctoral opportunities for research in astronomy.
U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Minority Postdoctoral Research Fellowships
In an effort to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in selected areas of science in the U.S., these fellowships support training and research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Graduate Funding Repayment Assistance
