New Mexico Tech Creates Technology for Law Enforcement ‘Case Catcher’
April 28, 2023
SOCORRO, N.M. – Scientists and engineers at New Mexico Tech contributed the brains behind new technology announced today, April 28, 2023, by a collaboration of business and civic leaders and law enforcement agencies. Case Catcher, a repository for documents, video, text messages, 911 recordings, and other discovery items used in criminal cases, is a new tool to aid the justice system in becoming more efficient and effective in prosecuting crimes.
Staff at Institute for Complex Additive Systems Analysis (ICASA), a research division of NMT that specializes in solutions to national and homeland security problems, built the digital repository over the past three years under a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice obtained by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. The secure electronic repository helps law enforcement agencies and justice system partners communicate better, replacing largely paper and email communications.
“We’re proud to be a part of this collaborative effort that makes our communities safer for people to live, work, and raise their families,” said NMT President Stephen G. Wells. “Our scientists and engineers at ICASA are to be commended for the knowledge, expertise, and creativity they invested in bringing this technological solution to fruition.”
