Callum Bell, PhD

Director

National Center for Genome Resources

Callum Bell has over 25 years of research, development, and management experience in genetics, genomics and bioinformatics. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Ph.D. in Arabidopsis genetics, and followed this up with postdoctoral studies focused on developing genomics technologies. This interest led to participation in the human genome project, and various appointments in the biotechnology industry in which he led interdisciplinary technical teams developing software and databases in support of research in genetics and genomics.

He joined NCGR in 2008 to work on a DNA screening test to identify carriers of rare childhood genetic diseases. He is currently president of NCGR, and is part of a collaboration studying interactions between certain plants and their nitrogen-fixing microbial partners.
